"Gross" means that interest is paid without any tax being deducted by the Society. "Net" means that interest is paid after deduction of tax at the appropriate rate. If you are a taxpayer you are not eligible to receive interest gross, so you must tell the Society at once if you are receiving interest without tax having been deducted. "AER" stands for annual equivalent rate and takes into account the cumulative effect of interest earned on interest that is credited to the account more frequently than yearly. "Tax Free" means that the interest is exempt from tax, subject to HMRC regulations being fulfilled. If you know the type of account you require, we will give you full details of that account. If you do not know which account you require, we will give you all the information required to enable you to make an informed choice. Before opening an account, please ensure you read the information about the Charitable Assignment, which can be found on the appropriate account application form. |
