Operating your account

Each account offered by SRBS is designated as either branch based or postal. Branch based accounts are designed to be operated over the branch counter using a passbook. SRBS does allow such accounts to be operated by post at the members’ option and expense. Accounts designated as postal may ONLY be operated by post. Postal accounts are operated in the following way:- When you open an account and all formalities have been completed, we will send you:

  • Your passbook
  • A blank withdrawal form
  • A FREEPOST envelope

If you wish to add your investment, simply send your passbook and the deposit in the envelope provided. On the date of receipt we will update your book and return it to you by first class post, together with a replacement Freepost envelope.

If you want to make a withdrawal, send us your passbook and a completed withdrawal form and we will post your passbook, withdrawal cheque (cash withdrawals not allowed by post) and replacement envelope back to you on the same day we receive them. We will accept a written instruction instead of a withdrawal form. This can be useful if you require several cheques issuing at once. Exceptionally, if you send us a stamped-addressed envelope we will post your withdrawal cheque direct to any third party payee.

If you want to trace a dormant or lost account (including the unclaimed assets scheme) you can visit www.mylostaccount.org.uk where you can instigate a search.
